Twenty five years before the End, a boy was born to Teresa and Ben Honing. The baby was missing his right arm and leg, and the flesh on the left side of his body hadn’t formed properly. The Honings’ child was certain to die without the expensive medical aid they could not afford. So, as a last effort to keep the child alive, Teresa gave the baby to one of the miltary’s cybernetics bases to use as an experiment, one that, said Dr. William Kite, might give the child a chance to live.
