Sol looked down at the desk. A lap-top carrying case stood open on its side, and it’s lap-top lay in two pieces on the floor, the monitor shattered in it’s plaster case and dismembered from the steel locks that had previously fastened it in place.
Sol brushed his arm across the desk, knocking papers and other paraphernalia onto the blue carpeted floor. He picked up the desk lamp and threw it against the opposite wall. The lamp’s electric cord ripped off the lamp and the lamp shattered against the wall.
After knocking over the desk, he searched the drawers, one of which were locked. He pulled out his pistol and blew the lock. He ripped the drawer out of the desk, sure he’d find what he’d been searching for.
“God damn it! Where the fuck is it?” he said to himself when the drawer proved to hold only paperwork and a Playboy magazine.
Sol was about to leave when he suddenly noticed the outline of a rectangle on the drywall wall. He pulled out one of the three throwing knives he carried around for good luck and pried the rectangle out.
Inside the dark cubicle, nothing was to be seen, but after meticulously examining the portal he noticed the glossy luster of glass.
Sol retrieved the object from the cache and examined it. At last! he thought, I’ve finally found it! And Sol began to laugh in joy.
The object was a cylindrical disc, made of a translucent glassy material. It was tinted black and etched onto it were the words:
